I grew up in the small country town of Savannah, TN, raised by two non creatives who are trusting their little girl to forge her own path in a seemingly impractical career. Though I fell in love with every artistic discipline Freshman and Sophomore year at MTSU, I declared myself a Studio Art major when I found myself procrastiworking on graphic design projects to paint late into the night and eventually fall asleep in my studio.
My intention through my work is to transfer the intimacy and vulnerability of my human experience into a painted surface. I start first by introducing color, shapes and line, and respond to their development. Constantly moving things around by pouring, scumbling, rearranging, adding and subtracting, the painting comes together after many layers have been placed on the canvas. The work pushes and pulls itself to completion.
